IRMO Brief no. 12/2017 by a member of the Finnish Parliament Elina Lepomäki deals with the Finnish security and defense policy. The Brief analyses through the Finnish perspective the defense policy of Finland as well as security challenges in the Baltic Sea region, including the relations with Russia, defense cooperation between Nordic states and positions on Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline project. The author also deals with relations between NATO and the Nordic states outside the NATO membership, Finland and Sweden, public support for joining NATO, and threats and opportunities for Finland in case of joining the Alliance.
