The Guide was published by the Jesenski and Turk publishing house. The goal of the Guide is primarily to provide a deeper understanding of the topic of sustainability and to raise awareness of the need to ensure the sustainability of cultural heritage so that, among other things, heritage is understood as a significant development resource. In accordance with this approach, the goal is to show interesting practices that have led to a more sustainable and durable cultural heritage projects, successfully facing challenges and threats in terms of economic, socio-cultural, environmental and political pressures. Therefore, after defining the basic terms and viewing cultural heritage in the context of development, the Guide begins by determining the most common challenges for cultural heritage sustainability, provides answers and solutions to these challenges, and presents successful practices. Attention is given to different aspects of sustainability (economic, environmental, socio-cultural, political), with the possibility of transferring successful examples to another context. The special value of this Guide lies in the proposal of concrete measures for cultural heritage sustainability that can be incorporated into public policies. In addition to the measures, specific indicators are listed which can be used to measure success in ensuring cultural heritage sustainability. They are the result of research and many years of experience of individual authors of the handbook in the field of cultural heritage and strategic planning.
