In the new issue of IRMO aktualno, Hrvoje Butković presents an overview of the key findings of the RECLAIM project (Horizon Europe), which analysed various dimensions of post-truth politics in Europe and their effects on democratic culture, the public sphere, and trust in institutions from October 2022 to September 2024, with the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO) participating as a partner institution.
In the Croatian context, the article highlights that journalists perceive disinformation as a serious threat to the credibility and autonomy of journalism, emphasising the need to strengthen professional standards, fact-checking practices, and media literacy, alongside more consistent implementation of new EU regulations.
At the same time, teachers and civic education experts point to shortcomings in the current model and advocate introducing civic education as a separate compulsory subject in primary and secondary schools. In conclusion, the article shows that strengthening democratic resilience requires coordinated responses at the levels of public policy, the media system, and education.
