Dr Ana-Maria Boromisa, the head of the Department for International Economic and Political Relations at IRMO, gave a statement to Deutsche Welle (DW) on the future of Croatian-Hungarian relations and Croatia’s energy security. In the article “The Future of Croatian-Hungarian Relations Still Overshadowed by INA and MOL” by Igor Lasić, Boromisa commented on the possibility of a shift in Croatian-Hungarian relations following the electoral victory of Péter Magyar and raised the broader issue of energy security.
According to Boromisa, the departure of Viktor Orbán does not automatically resolve the issue of Croatia’s energy sovereignty. She emphasised that any attempt to repurchase a majority stake and regain management control over INA would be financially and legally demanding, while also involving considerable risks. Boromisa stressed that the key priority is to ensure energy security and sustainable resource management while reducing dependence on a single company. In this context, she proposed a broader security package linking LNG, domestic gas production and storage capacities, providing greater supply flexibility, seasonal balancing and crisis response mechanisms.
