Dr. Jaka Primorac, a Scientific Advisor in the Department for Culture and Communication, participated in an international scientific conference titled “Life and Work in Precarious Times” held on 8–9 October at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research (IEF). The conference was structured into seven sessions and brought together over thirty scholars from Croatia, Slovenia, and Serbia.
Dr. Primorac took part in the panel “Precarious Work in Cultural and Professional Fields: Media, Art, and Science,” presenting a co-authored paper titled “Continuity of Precarity and Changing Fragility: Working Conditions in Civil Society Organizations within the Field of Contemporary Art and Culture.” The paper was co-authored with Marta Jalšovec, a Senior Research Advisor at the ‘Kultura nova’ Foundation, and Petra Rodik, a researcher at Dotplot. The presentation stems from the second wave of research on working conditions in civil society organizations within the field of contemporary art and culture, a research project conducted by the ‘Kultura nova’ Foundation in two phases from 2014 to 2026, in which Dr. Primorac serves as an external collaborator.
The conference was organized as part of the project “Precarious Culture and the Future of Work (BURA),” hosted by the IEF and funded by the European Union’s #NextGenerationEU program. The conference program is available here, and the book of abstracts can be accessed via this link (in Croatian only).
