Job title: Senior research assistant
Dea Vidović is a Senior research assistant in the Department for Culture and Communication of the Institute for Development and International Relations. She graduated in Comparative Literature and Indology from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb, where, in 2012, she obtained her PhD with a doctoral dissertation in the cultural policies field.
From 2012 to 2024, she was the Kultura Nova Foundation Director, and previously, she worked as an editor, journalist, and manager in the public and non-profit sector in culture. At the Kultura Nova Foundation, she established a Research and Development Program and, in cooperation with scholars from Croatia and abroad, initiated and coordinated numerous research studies on cultural development and cultural policies (e.g. working conditions of civil society in contemporary arts and culture sector, education in the cultural sector, participatory governance in culture, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic and 2020 earthquakes on the cultural sector, and mobility in culture in Europe). She participated as an advisor, researcher, or coordinator of the European research projects (OpenHeritage, INVENT, In Situ) funded by the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programs. Dea has published numerous academic and professional articles in Croatian and international publications and edited several publications in Croatian and English. She has extensive experience in teaching cultural policy at the university level, conducting training programs at the local, national, and international levels, and designing and organizing capacity-building programs tailored to the cultural and creative professionals needs. Additionally, Dea has created numerous other discursive formats for acquiring and disseminating knowledge and skills, including international conferences and seminars.
She has been engaged in the governing of international networks, including Philea Arts & Culture Funders Forum (2020-2024), ENCATC European Network on Cultural Management and Policy (2017-2023) and Global Cu1759ltural Relations (2022). She has also collaborated with numerous international organizations, such as UNDP, Danish Culture Institute, and the European Cultural Foundation.
Her research interests include cultural governance and management, local cultural development, cultural democracy, participatory democracy, participatory governance, working conditions and fair practices in culture, international cultural cooperation, networking, mobility, sustainability, the triple transition (digital, social, ecological), decolonization and decanonization of culture, cultural climate justice, the role of civil society in culture, transformative philanthropy, future studies, and systemic changes.
