Job title: Scientific advisor with tenure, Head of Department for Resource Economics, Environmental Protection and Regional Development
Sanja Maleković holds a PhD in economy from the University of Zagreb (1997). She is a scientific advisor and the Head of the Department. Her main research interests are local and regional development, EU cohesion policy, Croatian regional policy, governance, program evaluation, regional competitiveness and strategic development planning. She has contributed chapters to books (including Palgrave Macmillan) and published several articles in peer reviewed local and international journals as well as in London School of Economics Occasional Papers. Sanja has also been engaged as consultant in Croatia and South East Europe, as key expert, project coordinator and team leader of national and EU funded projects, as program evaluator and advisor. Her professional experience, among other includes engagements for the regional and national government, the European Commission, UNDP, ILO, the World Bank, OECD, British Know How Fund, UN Economic Commission for Europe and UK Department for International Development. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Network of the London School of Economics on Decentralization in South East Europe, the European Regional Science Association (ERSA) and the European Regional Studies Association (RSA). Sanja was the Croatian Representative in the EC Evaluation Team for the INTERREG IIIC program, a member of the Working Group Regional development and clusters (National Competitiveness Council) and member of the Government’s Negotiation Team with the EU in the Chapter of Regional Policy and Coordination of Structural Funds.
