The February 2020 edition of the IRMO Brief, authored by Gorana Grgic, deals with Australia, a country situated in the Asia-Pacific region, striving to balance its position in the international community. Australia’s perception worldwide is exceptionally positive as its economy had 28 years of uninterrupted growth and its cities regularly rank high on the list of the world’s most liveable. However, Australia has been hit by rapidly changing climate and devastating bush fires and at the same time it is not on track to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to harness global warming. The Brief also analyses Australia’s position in the world in regard to  the growing influence of China in the region. The author indicates the rising wariness in Australia related to its position in the world with the US as its major security ally and China as its indispensable trading partner.
