Dr Dea Vidović and Dr Ana Žuvela, collaborators on the CULTMED project, visited Chișinău (Moldova) from 8 to 11 July 2025 as part of the implementation of the project dedicated to the Universul Cultural Centre.
The Danish Cultural Institute organized this study visit for IRMO’s researchers to support the design of a participatory process methodology. This methodology, to be implemented in 2026, will help define the key elements of the future Universul Cultural Centre, including its concept, management model, programming framework, purpose, and operational methods. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova initiated the conversion of the former printing house to provide a dedicated workspace for Chișinău’s cultural actors and establish a multifunctional cultural centre in the heart of the city, one that serves the needs and supports the development of the local community.
During this study visit, researchers held a series of meetings with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the Municipal Cultural Department, the Centre for Policy and Reforms, etc. The researchers also conducted interviews with cultural actors and facilitated two focus groups with artists and cultural professionals working across various disciplines in Chișinău. In addition, they visited both the former printing house building and the future Youth Centre, which is currently undergoing renovation.
