The ninth issue of IRMO Brief deals with possible consequences of Brexit for the unity of the United Kingdom. At the June referendum on UK’s membership in the European Union two constituent countries – England and Wales – voted to leave, and two – Scotland and Northern Ireland – voted to remain. The overall result of the plebiscite was a 52 percent leave vote, however it is unclear how London will respond to the democratically expressed wish of the Scots and Northern Irish (and the Gibraltarians) to remain in the EU. The Brief analyzes five possible solutions for the perplexing political conundrum.
