Against the backdrop of rising global and European uncertainties, the Western Balkans continues to occupy a critical position within the geopolitical and security landscape of the European Union. The panel explored ongoing shifts in the region’s transatlantic cooperation and the evolving role of the EU and its member states in shaping regional security policy. Particular attention was given to urgent security concerns, including the increasingly destabilizing rhetoric and actions of Republika Srpska’s leadership, which threaten the stability of Bosnia and Herzegovina. The discussion also addressed potential strategies for strengthening the region’s resilience to both internal pressures and external geopolitical influences.
The panel provided an invaluable opportunity for experts, policymakers, diplomats, and the public to engage in a nuanced dialogue about these pressing issues. The event was well-attended, with over 60 participants, including policy experts, members of the diplomatic corps in Croatia, and academic researchers, reflecting the broad interest and relevance of the topic.
