The manual was published as the 3rd book in the series Cultural Heritage in Practice (the first book is the Manual for the Sustainable Management of Cultural Heritage, 2022, and the second is the Comprehensive Assessment of the Effects of Interventions in the Field of Cultural Heritage, 2023). Its aim is to provide basic information about good, that is, participatory planning and management to support those who manage cultural assets and all relevant actors involved in the management and planning processes of cultural heritage. It provides practical information that can help in choosing the methods to be used in working with different actor profiles. First, it defines the concept of cultural heritage and states its values; then the concept of management and the approaches and principles of participatory management are explained; then the importance of a participative or participative approach in the planning and management of cultural assets is highlighted; the process of stakeholder participation is explained using a step-by-step approach; then their social inclusion and evaluation; an overview of the main legal provisions that should be consulted in the processes of establishment and implementation of participatory management is presented; and finally, examples of new models of participatory planning and management of activities in the field of cultural heritage are put forward. In addition to the relevant literature, the Annex contains useful tools for the application of the participatory process of cultural heritage management.
