Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, PhD and Matea Senkić, M.A. published a chapter ‘The Value of Experience in Culture and Tourism: The Power of Emotions’ in the book ‘A Research Agenda for Creative Tourism’ published by Edward Elgar Publishing. The authors explore the role of emotions as the most important principle of creating experiences when setting up exhibitions in museums related to their power of provoking the experience that visitors will remember and which can potentially affect their re-visit. The chapter first introduces theoretical approaches to creating experiences that are put into the context of tourism experience. The research is based on the case study of the Museum of Broken Relationships, and the basic theoretical concept the research relates to is the tourist emotional engagement (TEE).

The presented results confirm the success of the Museum of Broken Relationships in the creation of emotional connections with the visitor and point to the future directions of the research on experience, concerning (1) the need to create attractions related to individual experiences, (2) the application of research results in art therapy and (3) the offer of such experiences that have the power to transform the visitor’s behaviour.
