Scientific Advisor Dr. Sandro Knezović attended the 51st Workshop of the PfP Consortium Study Group “Regional Stability in South East Europe,” held in Sarajevo from 21 to 24 September 2026. This year’s workshop, titled “Transatlantic Relations Under Scrutiny – Implications for the Western Balkans,” brought together experts to discuss the evolving transatlantic relationship and its implications for regional stability and security.
The traditionally close relationship between Europe and the United States has come under increasing political strain, particularly since the beginning of US President Donald Trump’s second term. Against this backdrop, the workshop examined EU-US relations and their regional perceptions, with particular attention to their impact on security cooperation, defence, and stability in the Western Balkans. Discussions highlighted the importance of a stable and coordinated partnership between the EU and the US for a region that continues to face unresolved political and security challenges, democratic pressures, and complex regional relations.
Dr. Knezović chaired the panel “Regional Perceptions of EU-US Relations and Impact on the Ground,” which examined how developments in transatlantic relations are perceived across the Western Balkans and how shifts in EU-US cooperation may affect political, security, and strategic dynamics on the ground.
The workshop provided an important platform for exchanging perspectives on the future of transatlantic relations and their significance for the stability, security, and European integration of the Western Balkans.
