In the latest issue of IRMO aktualno, Barbara Lovrinić Higgins explores the impact of European Union policies on the digital transformation of libraries, archives, and museums (LAM institutions), emphasizing their institutional convergence into “memory institutions”. TheEuropeana platform holds a central position in this transformation, serving as a key instrument for promoting European identity and cultural memory, while the introduction of the “Common European Data Space for Cultural Heritage” seeks to ensure the EU’s digitalsovereignty and strategic autonomy in the face of global technological powers. Within the Croatian context, these processes are manifested through innovations such as the NSK DigiLab and the national project “e-Kultura”, which established a single point of access to digital heritage. Ultimately, the author concludes that managing digital heritage is a deeply political issue that, through the mediatization of memory, redefines the social relevance and future of the LAM sector in a hyper-connected society. The work is based on researchconducted by the author as part of her doctoral dissertation.
