Senada Šelo Šabić, Scientific Adviser at IRMO, spoke on 30 June 2026 at the book launch of “Diplomacija iza kulisa – Komparativna analiza jedne profesije” (Diplomacy Behind the Scenes) by Prof. Damir Grubiša, held at the Novinarski dom in Zagreb. Šelo Šabić is one of the book’s peer reviewers.
Grubiša — political scientist, diplomat and professor — has written a book that, despite its scholarly foundations, reads as an engaging and entertaining work. Drawing on original sources, memoirs and diplomatic accounts, it takes the reader through the many layers of the diplomatic profession: from immunity and its abuses, to secret negotiations and the quiet power of a well-chosen bottle of wine, all the way to a sharp-eyed analysis of Croatian diplomacy. Because diplomacy, as Grubiša makes clear, is not just protocol and formal dinners — it is also a very human story of ingenuity, ambition, and situations so improbable they could only have happened behind closed doors.
President of the Republic of Croatia Zoran Milanović also attended the event.
