From 19 to 22 August 2025, the 2nd Summer School on “Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity in the Judiciary” was held in Dubrovnik, organised by the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Judicial Academy. IRMO researcher Ivana Keser participated as a lecturer, while this year’s school brought together 19 participants, including heads of judicial institutions, judges, and state attorneys.
At the opening session, participants were welcomed by Kristina Bekavac, Director of the Judicial Academy, Dr. Klaus Fiesinger, Director of the Hanns Seidel Foundation for Southeast Europe, and Marko Potrebica, President of the Dubrovnik City Council. The opening remarks highlighted the importance of continuous professional training and knowledge exchange in the field of artificial intelligence and digital technologies in the judiciary. The Minister of Justice, Public Administration and Digital Transformation, Damir Habijan, also addressed the participants, underlining that the integration of artificial intelligence into the judicial system must be grounded in knowledge, ethics, and trust.
Throughout the four-day programme, participants engaged in lectures and workshops covering topics such as the fundamentals of AI literacy, the security of critical infrastructure and risk assessment of AI systems, the practical use of generative AI tools in the judiciary, as well as the possibilities and limitations of their application. The programme was delivered by an interdisciplinary team of experts, enabling participants to acquire new knowledge and practical insights into the role of AI and cybersecurity in the judicial system.
