Scientists Dina Tomšić and Sanja Tišma have published a scientific paper entitled “Corporate Sustainability as a Driver of Sustainable and Agile Corporate Governance Practice—Croatian Experience” in the international scientific journal Sustainability. The paper examines how the application of sustainability principles in corporate practices drives complex changes in the way companies operate and conduct their business.

The paper presents the concept of corporate sustainability from a corporate governance perspective and introduces a multi-level conceptual model of sustainable corporate governance practice, developed by the authors based on theoretical analysis and empirical findings. The model connects the global, macro, and micro levels of the impact of the sustainability paradigm on corporate governance mechanisms. In doing so, it points towards a pathway for developing and implementing enhanced corporate governance practices that incorporate sustainability to a greater extent, while also contributing to reducing the tensions that corporate sustainability creates in corporate decision-making and governance processes.

The results of research conducted in Q4 2025 and Q1 2026 on the current state of corporate governance practices focused on corporate sustainability in Croatian companies show that neither the strategic nor the operational integration of sustainability into business models has yet been achieved. Sustainability is primarily viewed through the lens of regulatory compliance, without a strategic approach to sustainability management that would define clear objectives and link them to annual targets and the performance of top management.
