The Manual for Participatory Planning and Management of Cultural Heritage, authored by IRMO researchers, Ana Žuvela, Ph.D., Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, Ph.D., Sanja Tišma, Ph.D., and Ph.D. student Matea Senkić, has been published by Jesenski i Turk. The manual is the third book in the series Cultural Heritage in Practice (the first book being Manual for the Sustainable Management of Cultural Heritage, 2022, and the second Comprehensive Assessment of the Effects of Interventions in the Field of Cultural Heritage, 2023).

The manual aims to provide basic information on effective participatory planning and management to support cultural assets managers and all relevant actors involved in the management and planning processes of cultural heritage. It provides practical information that can help in choosing the methods to be used in working with different actor profiles.

First, it defines the concept of cultural heritage and states its values; then the concept of management and the approaches and principles of participatory management are explained; then the importance of a participatory approach in the planning and management of cultural assets is highlighted; the process of stakeholder participation is explained using a step-by-step approach; then their social inclusion and evaluation; an overview of the main legal provisions that should be consulted in the processes of establishment and implementation of participatory management is presented; and finally, examples of new models of participatory planning and management of activities in the field of cultural heritage are put forward.

In addition to the relevant literature, the Annex contains useful tools for the applying participatory process in cultural heritage management.
