Dr. Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, researcher at the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO), has published a scientific article entitled “Sustainable Accessibility: A Conceptual Framework for Sustainable Destination Development” in the international scientific journal Tourism and Hospitality.
The article introduces the concept of Sustainable Accessibility, positioning accessibility as a cross-cutting destination capacity rather than solely as a matter of barrier removal or social inclusion. Drawing on a conceptual analysis of academic literature, it develops a theoretical framework linking accessibility to the environmental, economic, social and cultural dimensions of sustainability, with particular attention to destination governance and stakeholder coordination.
The proposed framework explains how accessibility-related practices may contribute to sustainable destination development while acknowledging potential trade-offs between different sustainability objectives. It provides a theoretical foundation for future empirical research and offers insights for integrating accessibility into destination planning and management.
