The October 2020 edition of IRMO Brief, authored by Sandro Knezović, deals with the challenges the Schengen zone faces in the period of COVID-19 crisis. This pandemic represents a heavy burden to the EU and its member states, forcing them to introduce different restrictive measures in an attempt to curb the outspread of the virus. A complex decision-making system of the EU and divergent national approaches to the issue are additionally complicating an attempt to form a common EU approach to this epidemiological challenge. The author attempts to provide a critical analysis of the capacity of the EU and its member states to tackle this challenge, offering some functional recommendations for the period to come.
