On 23 April 2026, Dr. Sandro Knezović, Scientific Advisor at the Department for International Economic and Political Relations of the Institute for Development and International Relations, participated in the renowned international conference of the Midwest Political Science Association, held in Chicago.

On this occasion, he presented the findings of his paper titled “European Union’s Strategic Posture in a Competitive World – Rethinking the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP) in the Age of Global Rivalry.”

In his presentation, Knezović analysed the increasingly complex security environment in international relations and emphasised the importance of strengthening European defence capabilities and developing the European defence industry as key elements for enhancing strategic autonomy. Alongside an overview of existing opportunities, he also addressed the main challenges the European Union continues to face in its efforts to strengthen its security and defence role amid intensified global rivalry.
