On 15 June 2026, Mr Melvin Cheah Chee Aun, Chargé d’Affaires of the Embassy of Malaysia to the Republic of Croatia, visited the Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO). He met with Dr Jakša Puljiz, Director of the Institute, Dr Senada Šelo Šabić, Senior Research Adviser in the Department of International Economic and Political Relations, and Hrvoje Hrnkaš, Research Assistant. 

During the meeting, Mr Cheah expressed interest in developing cooperation with IRMO as one of Croatia’s leading institutes in the field of international relations. He also presented opportunities for collaboration between IRMO and academic institutions in Malaysia. IRMO representatives introduced the Institute’s work, mission and ongoing projects, including those carried out with partners from Asia. 

Mr Cheah also presented the Malaysian Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP), which offers scholarships funded by the Malaysian Government for international students wishing to pursue postgraduate studies in Malaysia. He highlighted the strong cooperation between Croatian educational institutions and the Institute of Malaysian and International Studies at University Kebangsaan Malaysia. 

The meeting confirmed a shared interest in strengthening cooperation between IRMO and Malaysian partners, particularly in the areas of academic exchange, research collaboration and guest lectures. IRMO thanks Mr Cheah for his visit and looks forward to future cooperation.
