The Croatian Library Association (Hrvatsko knjižničarsko društvo – HKD), which has been continuously operating since 1940 and unites key experts for the development of librarianship in Croatia, marks a significant milestone in 2025 – 85 years of existence.

The central event commemorating this important anniversary was the 50th Assembly of the Croatian Library Association, held on November 11–12, 2025, in Zagreb, at the National and University Library in Zagreb. This anniversary served as an opportunity not only to review past activities but also for the ambitious consideration of future guidelines for action.

In the year of its grand jubilee, the HKD is initiating the process of future planning and the preparation of its Development Strategy. The Strategy aims to further strengthen the professional community, enhance cooperation, and raise the visibility of the library profession in the broader social context.

The Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO) is actively involved in this strategic process by providing expert methodological support. In this context, the workshop titled “Challenges, Needs, Potentials, and SWOT Analysis within the Framework of Preparations for the HKD Development Strategy” was held.

The workshop was led by the Institute’s experts: Sanja Tišma, PhD, Ivana Keser, PhD, and Maja Hoić.
