Sandro Knezović, PhD attended the conference “The Future of the Schengen Zone and the Accession of the Republic of Croatia to Schengen” on March 23rd 2022 in Osijek, organized by the Faculty of Law (University of Osijek) and the Zagreb office of the Hanns Seidel Stiftung). Dr. Knezović gave a lecture on history, achievements and future of the Schengen Area, as well as on Croatia’s accession process to the Schengen Area.
The participants discussed about the advantages and challenges of Croatia’s accession to the Schengen Area, Schengen reform plans and its implications for the Croatian politics, economy and society as a whole. The discussion addressed topics related to the crises that Member States have encountered over the years, such as the migrant crisis in 2015, the COVID-19 crisis, and the latest security crisis caused by the war in Ukraine as well. The conference was attended by the members of the academic community, representatives of the European Union’s institutions and law students from Osijek, Zagreb, Rijeka, and Mostar.
