In the new issue of IRMO Aktualno, the authors present research results from the Horizon Europe project CresCine – Increasing the international competitiveness of the film industry in small European markets. The research report Small European Film Markets: Portraits and Comparisons included portraits of seven small European film markets, namely Belgium (Flanders), Denmark, Estonia, Croatia, Ireland, Lithuania and Portugal, from 2014 to 2022. The portraits included an overview of the development of the film industry, data on production, financing, service productions, distribution, exhibition infrastructure and festivals. IRMO Aktualno presents comparative data on the export of films from small European film markets while also providing a comparison with the markets of six large European countries (the so-called Big Five [France, Germany, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom] and Poland). The text points out the key challenges faced by the international distribution of films from these countries, with a special focus on Croatia.
