Project duration: 01/12/2025 – 31/08/2026
Client: City of Zagreb
Project manager: Sanja Tišma, PhD
The project aims to develop a long-term strategy for the modernization, sustainability, and integration of the City of Zagreb’s markets into contemporary urban life. The Strategy will define guidelines for improving infrastructure, digitalizing operations, strengthening the ecological and social functions of markets, and positioning them as cultural and tourist centers. The focus is on creating a functional network of markets that meet the needs of citizens, traders, and producers, while contributing to community development and the principles of the circular economy.
The project will be implemented in four phases: analysis of the current situation and best European practices; definition of a vision, objectives, and development guidelines for each market; preparation of concrete measures, action and marketing plans; and the development of an operational Action Plan until 2030, with clearly defined responsibilities, partners, and success indicators.
All relevant stakeholders (the City of Zagreb, Zagreb Markets, traders, citizens, experts, producers, and research institutions) will be involved through a participatory process including workshops, surveys, and consultations.
The expected results include the establishment of a model for sustainable, digitalized, and socially inclusive markets that become symbols of Zagreb’s identity and urban revitalization, enhancing the quality of life for citizens and supporting local economic growth.
