Daniela Angelina Jelinčić, PhD (IRMO) and Yoel Mansfeld, PhD (University of Haifa) published a chapter ‘Applying Cultural Tourism in the Revitalisation and Enhancement of Cultural Heritage: An Integrative Approach’ in the book ‘Cultural Urban Heritage: Development, Learning and Landscape Strategies’ published by Springer Nature. The chapter focuses on cultural tourism as a means of cultural heritage revitalisation representing specific ‘soft’ models, which contribute to the revival of heritage sites, all for the sake of their sustainability. The paper advocates an integrated approach to the revitalization of heritage, manifested in the participatory management of heritage sites involving the local community. The ‘soft’ revitalization models relate to contemporary storytelling in the interpretation of heritage, which imply the use of creative industries, engaged activities through the concept of participatory experience tourism (PET), and the creation of tourist offer based on the experience economy. The need to use all five senses in creating experiences with a potential impact on emotionally responsive behavior by tourists is especially highlighted.
