The book From the Lisbon Strategy to Europe 2020 has been issued with the support of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Croatia. It represents joint contribution of a group of Croatian and foreign scholars. The Croatian authors are coming from the IMO, the Faculty of Law at the University of Zagreb and the Institute of Economics in Zagreb while foreign contributors are represented by scholars from the University of Ljubljana and the Corvinus University in Budapest. The book assesses achievements of the Lisbon Strategy as the EU’s major development agenda in the last decade that will be replaced with the Europe 2020 Strategy in 2011 as the new paradigm of “smart, sustainable and inclusive growth”. It is divided in two parts. The first part elaborates overall strategic perspectives of the Lisbon and Europe 2020 strategies, while the second part focuses on selected sectoral issues, where authors evaluate particular policies in the context of the Lisbon Strategy, its future development as the Europe 2020 strategy and elaborate implementation in the EU member states. Experiences and good practices in the new EU member states are especially emphasized as they can be useful for Croatia. The book aims to raise awareness of the relevance of the Europe 2020 goals for strengthening reforms in Croatia, as well as in other candidate and neighbouring countries.
