As part of this project, the organization of three round tables was planned, where topics related to the fundamental challenges of contemporary international relations, especially od the transatlantic community, were discussed. At the first round table, which marked the 70th anniversary of the existence of the NATO alliance and the 10th anniversary of Croatia’s membership in it, today’s global challenges that threaten international security were discussed, as well as the existing capacities of the NATO alliance, which should enable adequate responses to existing challenges. The second round table was devoted to the relationship between the concepts of national and European identity in contemporary international relations burdened by the rapid growth of populism and euroscepticism. The third round table dealt with contemporary challenges to the EU enlargement policy and the new methodology that is increasingly being openly advocated in the context of the discussion regarding the sustainability of the aforementioned EU policy and the complexity of the remaining candidate countries and potential candidates. The mentioned three dimensions of the discussion on current global challenges will be conducted with the intention of defining fundamental conclusions (policy recommendations), useful for decision makers, both in Croatia and beyond.
