Abstract
The cult of Saint Wendelin came to the southern parts of the Pannonian Plain in the middle of the 18th century with the colonization of the population of different ethnic origins, among whom were Germans. Their respect for Saint Wendelin is also evidenced by the fact that the first chapel erected in this area dedicated to this saint was in Odžaci (1776). It was only two decades after the wave of Teresian colonization in which the place was inhabited. The chapel was built on the new cemetery, which is located south of the settlement and since the old one, in the area of church, became tight. On several occasions over the next hundred and more years old chapel was renovated, which can be seen in the documentation of the Archives of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa, including repairs from 1871 and 1872. After that, a new chapel was built in the same place. The Archives of the Archdiocese of Kalocsa hold documents that reveal details about the construction and decoration of the new chapel in the period 1891-1893 and then in 1895, when Johann Holzinger, Henrik Altenbuchner and Josef Greiner were engaged. The documentation of the Archives of the Archdiocese of Kalosca reveals important information for a better understanding of the Chapel of Saint Wendelin in Odžaci, especially in relation to its status as a protected cultural monument.
