This book tackles the issues of recent developments within the European Union and its relations with non-member countries. Within this context, the book points to some elements of the future Croatian strategy towards the European Union. The European Community has so far treated Croatia as both Mediterranean and Central European country. Based on the elements of this dual treatment, and with full consideration given to the importance of the further development of market economy and democratic society, Croatia should build a new relationship model leading to stronger institutional ties with the European Union. The book offers a comparative analysis of the EU policies towards the countries of the Mediterranean as well as Central and Eastern Europe. It suggests guidelines for the Croatian adjustment to the European Union.
