IRMO researchers Daniela Angelina Jelinčić and Sanja Tišma published an original scientific article in the journal European Journal of Geography, which is referenced in the Scopus database. The article entitled “Tourism Innovation in the Adriatic-Ionian Region: Questioning the Understanding of Innovation” analyzes projects financed within the framework of the European Union Strategy for the Adriatic-Ionian Region (EUSAIR) on the topic of innovation in sustainable tourism. The innovation capacity of the projects is analyzed and possible interventions in public policy are proposed. The research results detect the unequal geographical distribution and financial incentives for innovative projects, as well as insufficient understanding of the concept of innovation. Although financial incentives for innovation are welcome, they do not guarantee innovative solutions. Instead, it is necessary to ensure efficient governance to avoid mediocre solutions. The article also provides guidelines for growth and improvement in the development of innovations in sustainable tourism in the Adriatic-Ionian region.
