Through the “QNeST” project (Quality Network on Sustainable Tourism), scientific research was carried out related to the topic of sustainable tourism in general, as well as assessments of the state and potential for the development of sustainable tourism in the County of Istria. The goal of the project was the preparation of an analytical basis for the drafting of an Adriatic-Ionian integrated sustainable tourism development strategy and the introduction of a branding system for products related to sustainable tourism. The purpose of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the living standard of people in the project area. The project carried out a detailed analysis of the current state related to the development of sustainable tourism in Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Montenegro and Albania. Four key components were analyzed: environment, culture, health and gastronomy. Based on the results of the analyses and interviews with local stakeholders in all countries involved in the project, the entire documentation for the branding of sustainable tourism in the Adriatic-Ionian region was prepared.
