Conference date and venue: 17 April 2013, Westin Hotel Zagreb

Team leader: Višnja Samardžija, PhD

Partners: Institute for Development and International Relations (IRMO) Zagreb and the Swedish Institute of International Affairs (UI), Stockholm

About this conference:

The aim of this high level event organized with the support of the Swedish Embassy in Zagreb was to assess implications of Croatian EU accession for continuation of EU enlargement efforts in South Eastern Europe (SEE). Croatian accession sends an encouraging message to the candidate and potential candidate countries in the region. However, further enlargement faces multiple challenges such as crisis in the Euro zone, internal dynamics of relations in the EU on one hand and capability and determination of the SEE countries for implementation of reforms and compliance with accession requirements on the other.
