The Institute for Development and International Relations, in cooperation with the Zagreb Office of the Hanns Sediel Foundation, has implemented the project “Croatia’s 2020 Presidency of the Council of the European Union – A challenging opportunity for international affirmation“, encompassing the research and the resulting study on the institution of Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The aim of the study was to analyse opportunities and challenges of the first Croatian Presidency in 2020. The study also reflected on lessons learned from preceding presidencies of EU members with comparable size and leverage.

The study represents a valuable document for Croatian foreign policy and policy makers, and is an important contribution to the much-needed debate on this matter. The study has been presented at the roundtable, which gathered a significant number of representatives from the state administration, international organizations, academia and diplomatic representatives that analysed study’s conclusions from different perspectives.
