Sandro Knezović, Ph. D., participated at the conference “The Regional History and Analysis Seminar”, organized by the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, held in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, from the 1st to 5thNovember 2021. Dr. Knezović held a presentation on the topic of imperial legacies and strategic competition between the Ottoman and Habsburg Empires. The presentation focused on the legacies of these empires in Southeast Europe, nature of their rule in the broader social, economic, and political developments in the region.

The conference focused on history, culture, and related factors on regional security environments in Southeast Europe, providing a framework for analysis of historical patterns and their relevance for contemporary operations and planning. The course was organized by George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, one of the top think-tanks in Europe, for U.S. military and civilian staff to get better acquainted with the region of Southeast Europe.
